The scriptures read are Isaiah 13-15, Psalm 30 and 2 Thessalonians 2.
Isaiah 13. The doom of Babylon is announced with vivid and hyperbolic imagery.
Isaiah 14. A word of restoration to God's people and then more scorn for Babylon.
King Ahaz dies but God tells the Philistines not to get their hopes up.
Isaiah 15. God turns his anger and attention to Moab.
Psalm 30. Women singing acapella in close harmony. Lovely. Click here.
2 Thessalonians 2. Apparently, Paul's first letter was not enough to calm down the apocalyptic fever in Thessalonica's church. Paul says relax! Before the end there will be plenty of clear signs. Paul gives special attention to a "man of lawlessness" (he never calls him the Antichrist, either) who will precipitate things and he is not here yet, thanks to God. Paul wants the church to know this stuff so they aren't led astray by tricks and deceit. Hold onto the good news.
